The first nine holes at Haviksoord were laid out in 1976, partly in woodland and partly on farmland, to a design by the club professional Jan Stevens. Haviksoord was later extended to 18 holes. All the new holes were laid out in existing woodland, and some of the original holes were split up in the process.
Before 1930 almost all the land at Haviksoord was heath, the Zevenhuizensche Heide, and the woods were planted in the 1930s for timber. A lake on the course was dug around 1970 to supply soil for the ramps of several bridges over the A2 motorway. According to the club, the acidic soil suits its bentgrass greens, and Haviksoord has always followed the English style of golf.
Leender Golfclub Haviksoord is on the Maarheezerweg Noord in Leende, beside the A2. The course itself is run by the company Haviksoord Golf Club, while Leender Golfclub Haviksoord is the members' association. The name Haviksoord comes from an aircraft factory that once stood on the site, roughly where the putting green is today.
Haviksoord has ten par 4s, four par 3s and four par 5s, and measures 6,083 metres from the white tees, 5,703 from yellow and 5,071 from red. The second nine is the longer and tougher half at 3,151 metres from white, against 2,932 for the first. From the white tees the men's course rating is 72.2 with a slope of 136; from yellow it is 70.9 and 130. For women, the course rating from the red tees is 73.3 with a slope of 128.
