About Golfclub De Dommel
Golfclub De Dommel in Sint-Michielsgestel, North Brabant, is an 18-hole, par-70 course in woodland, heath and open fields, with nine holes by Harry Colt.
Golfclub De Dommel lies on the Zegenwerp estate in the valley of the river Dommel, south of Sint-Michielsgestel. Twelve of its holes run through woodland and heath, over sandy hills and along avenues of oak and beech. The other six, holes 2 to 7, are laid out on former farmland.
Golfclub De Dommel was founded on 24 September 1928 on the initiative of C.G.J. van Lanschot. A year later the English architect Harry S. Colt designed the first nine holes, now holes 10 to 18. The De Dommel clubhouse, designed by 's-Hertogenbosch architect H.W. Valk, opened in 1930 and is among the oldest clubhouses in the Netherlands.
The layout at De Dommel grew in stages. J.F. Dudok van Heel added three holes in 1984, and for almost thirty years De Dommel was the only 12-hole course in the country. In 2014 Frank Pont designed six new holes north of the Esscheweg, completing 18.
The back nine is the stiffer test at De Dommel: a par 36 of 2,820 metres from the yellow tees, with a men's slope of 133. The front nine is a par 34 of 2,643 metres with a slope of 117. The 8th, a 398-metre par 4 from the yellow tees, is stroke index 1.
De Dommel has five par 3s, ten par 4s and three par 5s, and measures 5,463 metres from the yellow tees and 4,136 metres from the orange tees. From the yellow tees the men's course rating is 69.0 with a slope of 125; from the blue tees it is 66.8 and 117. For women, the red tees give 69.9 and 121.
