About Golfclub Capelle
Golfclub Capelle in Capelle aan den IJssel, South Holland, is an 18-hole, par-69 polder course designed by British golf architect Donald Harradine.
Golfclub Capelle was founded in 1977 as Golf & Country Club Capelle aan den IJssel and first played on a six-hole course on the Abraham van Rijckevorselweg. In the mid-1980s the municipality of Capelle aan den IJssel made around fifty hectares available near the 's-Gravenweg. Donald Harradine was commissioned in 1988, and the new 18-hole course at Golfclub Capelle was ready for play in 1991.
Golfclub Capelle sits on the eastern edge of Rotterdam, in the polder country towards Gouda. The land is peat, some six metres below sea level, so the greens and tees at Golfclub Capelle were built on polystyrene foundations to limit subsidence.
The layout at Golfclub Capelle is a park-like polder course. Harradine widened the existing drainage ditches into water features. The front nine is a par 35 and the back nine a par 34, and each nine can be played as a separate loop.
Golfclub Capelle has six par 3s, nine par 4s and three par 5s. The course measures 5,155 metres from the yellow tees, 4,385 metres from the red tees and 3,925 metres from the orange tees. The closing hole, the 18th, is stroke index 1: a par 5 of 499 metres from the yellow tees. The 17th, at 205 metres from the yellow tees, is the longest par 3.
From the yellow tees, the men's course rating at Golfclub Capelle is 67.9 with a slope of 125; from the red tees it is 64.7 and 109. For women, the course rating from the red tees is 69.0 with a slope of 126.
Golfclub Capelle welcomes green fee players, at weekends as well as on weekdays. Visitors can book a tee time up to 13 days in advance.
