Golfclub Brunssummerheide
About Golfclub Brunssummerheide
Golfclub Brunssummerheide in Brunssum, Limburg, has a 27-hole championship course of three par-36 nines, in hilly woodland by the Brunssummerheide heath.
Golfclub Brunssummerheide lies on the Rimburgerweg in Brunssum, in South Limburg close to the German border. The course sits between nature areas such as the Brunssummerheide, the Brandenberg, the Teverener Heide and the Schinveld woods, and the club takes its name from the Brunssummerheide.
The championship course at Brunssummerheide is made up of three nine-hole loops, Blue, Yellow and Red, each a par 36. Any two of them combine into an 18-hole round of par 72. The venue also has a nine-hole Compact Course (Green) and a nine-hole par-3 practice course, for 45 holes in all.
Brunssummerheide is known for elevation changes that are rare in the Netherlands. Holes run through old and young pines, mixed deciduous woodland and open ground, past hidden ponds, and several tee shots are played from higher ground. The club itself calls the course un-Dutch and says no two holes are alike.
Golfclub Brunssummerheide was founded on 1 February 1985, after the regional authority Streekgewest Oostelijk Zuid-Limburg came up with the idea for a golf course. Prince Bernhard officially opened its first 18 holes on 11 September 1986. A third nine followed in 1994 and the nine-hole Green course in 2005.
Visitors who want to play the Blue, Yellow and Red loops at Brunssummerheide need a handicap of 54 or better. The Green Compact Course requires the Dutch course permit (golfbaanpermissie), while the par-3 course has no playing requirement, which makes it suitable for beginners.
