Golf & Countryclub Geijsteren in Geijsteren, Limburg, is an 18-hole, par-72 golf course in woodland and water, designed by Frank Pennink and Donald Steel.
Golf & Countryclub Geijsteren was founded in 1974 and opened officially in 1976 as a nine-hole course. It grew to 18 holes in two stages, completed in the mid-1980s. Frank Pennink worked the natural woodland into the play, while Donald Steel gave the extension its own character with water and open ground.
Golf & Countryclub Geijsteren lies at Het Spekt in Geijsteren, a village in the municipality of Venray in the north of the province of Limburg. The course occupies the Landgoed Geijsteren estate, in woodland near Wanssum. The club holds a GEO certificate and keeps track of the birds, butterflies, bats and mammals that live on the course.
A round at Geijsteren falls into two parts. The first thirteen holes sit deep in the woods. The last five are water holes, among them two par 5s: the 14th at 448 metres and the 16th at 454 metres from the white tees. The hardest hole on the stroke index is the 11th, a 356-metre par 4.
Both nines at Geijsteren can also be played on their own. The front nine is a par 35 of 2,881 metres from the white tees; the back nine is a par 37 of 3,209 metres with three par 5s. For men off the white tees the back nine carries a slope of 146, against 128 on the front.
Over 18 holes, Geijsteren has ten par 4s, four par 3s and four par 5s, and measures 6,090 metres from the white tees, 5,893 from yellow and 4,098 from orange. The men's course rating is 72.0 with a slope of 132 from white, and 71.6 with 136 from yellow. Women play the red tees (5,198 metres) at a course rating of 73.5 and a slope of 128.
Visitors are welcome at Golf & Countryclub Geijsteren seven days a week. The club expects green fee players to hold at least a Dutch golf proficiency certificate (GVB), and every round must be booked in advance.
