Golf- en Businessclub De Scherpenbergh in Lieren, Gelderland, has 27 holes in the wooded Veluwe: an 18-hole, par-72 course and a nine-hole par-3/4 course.
The 18-hole championship course at De Scherpenbergh pairs the Zwaluwenbaan (holes 1 to 9) with the Dassenbaan (holes 10 to 18). Each is a par-36 loop that can also be played on its own, with three par 3s, three par 4s and three par 5s, and the round both opens and closes with a par 5. The longest hole is the par-5 8th at 455 metres from the yellow tees.
The Zwaluwen-Dassenbaan at De Scherpenbergh measures 5,588 metres from the yellow tees and 4,753 metres from the red tees. For men, the course rating from the yellow tees is 70.3 with a slope of 127. For women, the course rating from the red tees is 71.6 with a slope of 124.
The Berkenbaan is the short course at De Scherpenbergh: nine holes, par 31, with five par 3s and four par 4s between 63 and 300 metres long. Played twice, the Berkenbaan makes an 18-hole round of par 62 and 3,038 metres from the yellow tees, with a men's course rating of 56.5 and a slope of 90.
Golf- en Businessclub De Scherpenbergh is on the Albaweg in Lieren, close to Apeldoorn. The club lies in the rolling, wooded countryside of the Veluwe, with patches of woodland and water hazards. Because De Scherpenbergh was built on sandy soil, its courses are playable almost all year round.
De Scherpenbergh joined the Dutch golf federation (NGF) as an associate member in 1999, with a nine-hole course designed by Tom MacAulay and Alan Rijks. That original nine, the Zwaluwenbaan, gained A status a year later. In 2005 the Dassenbaan was added, giving De Scherpenbergh 18 holes.
Visitors can play De Scherpenbergh as green fee players. The Zwaluwenbaan and Dassenbaan require a handicap of 54 or better, while the Berkenbaan has no handicap requirement. Book your tee time with the club in advance.
