About Golf & Country Club Winterswijk
De Voortwisch, home of Golf & Country Club Winterswijk in Gelderland, is an 18-hole Donald Steel course in coulisse landscape, playing to par 69 in 2026.
Golf & Country Club Winterswijk was founded on 7 November 1986 at the initiative of Ruud Paijens, then director of NEDAP in Groenlo. That same year Eric Huiskamp turned a former campsite on the Voortwisch estate into a six-hole course. A nine-hole course designed by Donald Steel opened in 1992, the year the club became the 71st recognised golf club in the Netherlands. De Voortwisch was extended to 18 holes in 2014, with architect Hans Hertzberger involved.
De Voortwisch lies on the Vredenseweg in Henxel, a hamlet of Winterswijk in the Achterhoek. The course is set in the region's characteristic coulisse landscape of small fields and wooded banks. Historic landscape features known as essen and kampen were used in building De Voortwisch to make it more challenging.
Can visitors play De Voortwisch? Yes: Golf & Country Club Winterswijk welcomes green fee players with a recognised handicap, and in 2026 both nines require a handicap of 54 or better. Tee times are booked online through the club. The par-3 practice holes can be played without a handicap.
In 2026 De Voortwisch plays with an interim second nine. The first nine is a par 35 of 2,800 metres from the white tees and the interim second nine a par 34 of 2,550 metres; each can be played as a separate loop. Together they measure 5,350 metres from the white tees and 3,600 metres from the orange tees, with seven par 3s, seven par 4s and four par 5s. Hole 4, a 504-metre par 5 from the white tees, is stroke index 1.
On the 2026 18-hole layout, men playing De Voortwisch from the white tees face a course rating of 69.1 and a slope of 124; from the yellow tees it is 68.0 and 121. For women on the red tees, the course rating is 69.4 with a slope of 117.
