About Golf Club The Dutch
The Dutch, in Spijk in the province of Gelderland, is an 18-hole, par-71 inland links course designed by Colin Montgomerie.
The Dutch lies on the Haarweg in Spijk, in the West Betuwe municipality just east of Gorinchem. Montgomerie and Ross McMurray of European Golf Design shaped flat, low-lying farmland into rolling fairways full of bumps and hollows, with links-style bunkering. The low ground also called for plenty of water, so lakes, streams and canals come into play at The Dutch.
From the back tees, the 8th at The Dutch is a 169-metre par 3 to a raised green with bunkers left, right, front and back. The 11th, a 444-metre par 4, is stroke index 1. The par-5 18th measures 585 metres from the black tees, with water to avoid on the way to the green.
The two nines at The Dutch differ. The front nine is a par 35 with a single par 5; the back nine is a par 36 with three each of par 3s, par 4s and par 5s. Architect Ross McMurray has called the back nine in particular a true challenge. Each nine can also be played on its own.
The Dutch has five par 3s, nine par 4s and four par 5s and measures 6,492 metres from the black tees. Its other tees carry names, from The Dutch Futures (6,331 metres) to Tartan (5,076 metres). Men play to a course rating of 75.7 and a slope of 149 from the black tees, and 72.5 and 143 from the Made in Scotland tee. Women play from the Tartan tee at a course rating of 74.4 and a slope of 145.
The Dutch grew out of Made in Scotland, a company four golf professionals founded at Loch Lomond. Construction began in early 2008, and Montgomerie officially opened The Dutch in May 2011. The course hosted the KLM Open from 2016 to 2018; Joost Luiten won the 2016 edition with a closing round of 63.
The Dutch is open only to members and their guests, so visitors cannot book a green fee on their own. Guests of a member need a handicap of 54 or better.
